Formerly a back garden ‘carpeted’ with wall to wall artificial grass with compacted soil and drainage issues.

After extensive groundworks the garden was re-imagined as a ‘glamour woodland’. Silver birch trees and shade tolerant planting surround a permeable, low maintenance gravel garden with space for the family to play table tennis or gather around the fire pit. A contemporary, linear terrace, softened with interplanting creates an extended relaxed seating area. A new balcony links the house and garden at first floor level.

‘With dappled sunlight falling on lush ferns and mounds of grasses tousled by the breeze, this city garden is a welcome refuge from the hot and dusty summer streets beyond. The tranquil simplicity of this small plot belies the huge transformation’ Kate Jacobs, Gardens Illustrated
